Cyclone Michaung: 2 Bhubaneswar-Chennai Flights Cancelled
Bhubaneswar: Two flights to Chennai from Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar have been cancelled as heavy rain battered Tamil Nadu on Monday under the influence of cyclone ‘Michaung’.
As heavy rain pounded several places in Tamil Nadu due to the cyclone, the Chennai International Airport has been closed for flight operations till 11 pm on Monday, officials said.
Therefore, two Chennai-bound flights from Bhubaneswar have been cancelled for the day. The flight operations will resume as soon as the weather condition improves, airport director Prasanna Kumar Pradhan said.
Stating that two flights operate from Bhubaneswar to Chennai, he said both the flights have been cancelled on Monday as the Chennai airport remains closed. If the weather condition improves and the authorities open the Chennai airport on Tuesday, flights from Bhubaneswar can operate, he added.
According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), cyclone ‘Michaung’ is likely to cross south Andhra Pradesh coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam during forenoon of Tuesday as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 90-100 kmph gusting to 110 kmph.
