Bhubaneswar: As trees uprooted during the impending cyclone Montha could snap power lines in Odisha, TP Central Odisha Distribution Limited (TPCODL), a joint venture of Tata Power and the Odisha government, has activated an extensive preparedness plan to minimise the potential impact and and ensure uninterrupted electricity supply to consumers across its operational areas.

Under its Business Continuity and Disaster Management Plan (BCDMP), TPCODL has established a comprehensive response framework to manage emergencies effectively. The company is closely monitoring real-time weather updates and has outlined pre-disaster and post-disaster action protocols for rapid response and restoration, an official release said.

It further noted that preventive maintenance has been completed at all primary and distribution substations. “Adequate stocks of critical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, poles and conductors, have been secured for immediate deployment. Specially trained quick-response teams have been strategically positioned across all divisions to enable swift restoration in case of power disruptions.”

Priority arrangements have been made to ensure uninterrupted power supply to critical services such as hospitals, water supply systems and disaster response centres, it added.

TPCODL has also activated its 24×7 toll-free helplines 1912 / 1800-345-7122 for consumers to report power-related emergencies. The company has stationed emergency response teams across multiple zones to handle issues promptly and efficiently.

“Safety and reliability are our top priorities. We are working in close coordination with government and local authorities to minimise any disruptions and ensure quick restoration of power supply in affected areas. Our teams are fully equipped and on standby to respond to any situation arising from the Cyclone Montha,” said CEO, TPCODL, Arvind Singh.a

Safety Advisory for Consumers

· Avoid touching electrical poles, wires, or equipment during rain and flooding.

· Stay indoors and away from trees or temporary structures during strong winds.

· Do not handle electrical devices with wet hands or while standing in water.

· Keep children away from open drains and waterlogged areas.
