Bhubaneswar: With Cyclone Tauktae predicted to strike the Gujarat coast on May 18, five teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) from Odisha left for the western state on Saturday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the deep depression centred over Lakshadweep intensified into a cyclonic storm on Saturday morning. It is expected to cross the Gujarat coast between Porbandar and Naliya probably by the afternoon or evening of May 18.
The five NDRF teams comprising 125 personnel from the 3rd Battalion stationed at Munduli near Bhubaneswar will be deployed in the vulnerable areas along the Gujarat coast. They will assist the Gujarat government in emergency relief works.
