New Delhi: Twelve hours after making landfall on the Gujarat coast on Monday evening, the Extremely Severe Cyclone Tauktae slightly weakened into a ‘Very Severe’ category on Tuesday morning.
However, the cyclone continues to rage across southern Gujarat with a wind speed of 110-120 km/per hour (kmph) gusting to 130 kmph, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed.
The ‘eye’ of the storm (the central region) is slowly disintegrating, but the storm is yet to weaken significantly. As a result, gale winds and heavy rain are forecast all through the day on Tuesday over Amreli, Anand, south Ahmedabad, Gir Somnath and Junagarh districts of Gujarat and adjoining north Maharashtra.
“The system is expected to weaken into the ‘Cyclonic Storm’ by afternoon hours of Tuesday and further weaken into a depression by the end of the day,” an IMD official was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
