Mumbai: A week after the devastating Cyclone Tauktae in Maharashtra, 86 bodies have been recovered from the Arabian Sea, including 70 from a couple of vessels that sank near Bombay High Fields, an official said on Sunday.
During the cyclone fury, Barge Papaa-305 and tugboat Varaprada that had 86 crew members and oil workers sank in the Arabian Sea.
There were 261 people on board Papaa-305, 13 others were on board anchor-handling vessel Varaprada.
As many as 188 survivors — 186 from Papaa-305 and two from Varaprada — were picked up at sea during the massive Indian Navy-led search. The rescue (SAR) operations lasted for seven days, the first half being in extreme weather conditions, reported news agency IANS.
