Cyclonic Circulation Triggers Moderate Rainfall In Odisha
Bhubaneswar: While some parts of coastal and western Odisha experienced rain and thundershower on Saturday morning under the influence of a cyclonic circulation, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that the rainfall will continue in the state till next 24 hours.
Talking to the media, weather scientist of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Ramesh Kumar Nayak said that there is a cyclonic circulation formation stretching from Jammu and Kashmir to Assam. Under its influence, some parts of western Odisha have experienced light to moderate rainfall since Friday night. “Going by the modular study, most parts of the state are likely to receive light to moderate rain or thundershower at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Bargarh, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur. Besides. Thunderstorm with lightning is most likely at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada from the afternoon hours till late evening on February 16,” Nayak said.
He further said that light to moderate rain or thundershower is likely to occur at a few places over the North Odisha and at one or two places,thunderstorm accompanied with hail and lightning likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal and Mayurbhanj and thunderstorm with lightning is likely at one or two places over the remaining districts of north Odisha and Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Boudh districts of South Odisha in the subsequent 24 hours on February 17.
The release also said that there is a possibility of light to moderate rain or thundershower at one or two places over coastal Odisha districts on till afternoon on February 18.
“Due to the squally weather, there will be appreciable fall in the night temperature in most parts of the state in the next three days,” Nayak pointed out.
The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar experienced thundershower and lightning in the early morning on Saturday. The moderate rainfall which began at about 5 am, continued till 9 am.
