Mumbai: Dr Anahita Pandole, who was at the wheel of the ill-fated Mercedes which met with a terrible accident at Palghar on September 4, underwent a major surgery for fractures in the hip region at Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital here on Thursday.
Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry and Jehangir Pandole, who were sitting in the rear, died on the spot, while Anahita and her husband Darius suffered multiple fractures.
Anahita, herself a renowned obstetrician and gynaecologist, was operated on for pelvic reconstruction.
According to doctors, the 55-year-old Dr Pandole’s femur bone was crushed and head of the femur was stuck in the pelvic bone.

Multiple opinions were sought from experts in US and Europe, before Dr Peter Giannoudis, chairman of Academic Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Leeds, was flown in from Britain to deal with Anahita’s complex case.
According to HN Reliance Hospital’s CEO Dr Tarang Gianchandani, Anahita is under the supervision of a team of 20 multidisciplinary doctors.
Her husband Darius, who suffered spine injuries, multiple rib fractures and jaw fracture, is stable and continues to be under observation.
“He will need facial reconstruction. We also need to address his spine and other injuries,” said a doctor treating him.
