Bhubaneswar: The daily COVID-19 caseload in Odisha inched closer to the 2,000-mark on Thursday with the state reporting 1,897 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. Of them, 258 are children.
The state saw 1,216 cases on Wednesday, 680 cases on Tuesday, 424 cases on Monday, 424 cases on Sunday, 298 cases on Saturday and 228 cases last Friday.
After August 15, this is the first time the state has been reporting over 1,000 daily infections.
According to the I & PR department, 1,106 infections are from quarantine and 791 local contacts. Khurda reported the highest of 669 cases, followed by Sundargarh (262), Cuttack (148), Sambalpur (125) and Balasore (100).

A total of 158 cases are from the state pool.
With these cases being detected from 72,370 samples, the test positivity rate (TPR) stood at 2.62 per cent against 1.71 the previous day.
The total cases in Odisha now stands at 10,59,773 with 5,739 active cases.
