Bhubaneswar: Odisha on Wednesday witnessed a significant jump in the daily COVID-19 cases as compared to the day before with 212 new infections, taking the active tally to 902 and test positivity rate to 3 per cent.
The highest of 64 cases have been reported from Sundargarh, followed by 42 from Nabarangpur. Khurda and Cuttack recorded 18 and 23 cases respectively.
India reported 7,830 new infections in the last 24 hours, the highest in 223 days, the Union health ministry data revealed.
Amid the spike in COVID cases, the demand for vaccines for booster doses has increased in Odisha and the state has sought Corbevax from the Centre to start the vaccination drive. The state has achieved 41 per cent coverage of the precaution or booster dose.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik also held a review meeting after returning from Japan and issued a release, stating that the situation was under control.
Odisha has been reporting over 100 cases of COVID every day since past one week.
