Islamabad: Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar engaged in a crucial phone conversation with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday, exchanging perspectives on preventing a renewed US-Iran conflict in West Asia amid fragile regional ceasefire efforts, PTI reported.
According to the Foreign Office, the discussion centered on the recently concluded Islamabad Talks, where Wang emphasized that “the top priority is to make every effort to prevent the US-Iran conflict from reigniting in West Asia and maintain the hard-won momentum of the ceasefire.”
Wang, who also serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, reiterated this critical stance, as covered by China’s state-run Xinhua news agency.
He congratulated Dar on Pakistan’s proactive contributions to promoting peace and stability across the region, while reaffirming China’s steadfast support for Islamabad’s “constructive diplomatic role,” according to the Foreign Office statement.
Dar, concurrently serving as Deputy Prime Minister, underscored Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to advancing dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred pathways to restoring enduring calm in the region.
Stressing that dialogue and diplomacy represent the only viable and sustainable path forward, the two leaders delved into the Pakistan-China Five-Point Peace Initiative, crafted to facilitate a peaceful resolution of ongoing regional disputes, the FO detailed.
Both sides pledged to remain in close contact to sustain these efforts.
This telephonic exchange followed a recent meeting between Dar and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Jiang Zaidong.
“Discussions centred on recent developments following the Islamabad talks,” the FO stated, adding that Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s resolute backing for dialogue and diplomacy in the wake of those high-stakes negotiations.
