Begunia: Normal life was crippled in Begunia block of Khurda district on Monday due to a 12-hour bandh called by Begunia Vikash Manch seeking fulfillment of its three-point charter of demands.
Most shops, business establishments and offices remained closed while vehicles stayed off the roads in response to the strike.
The bandh supporters staged road blockades by burning tyres at different places including National Highway-57, bringing vehicular movement to a grinding halt.
Elaborate security arrangements were put in place by police to prevent any untoward incident.
“The district administration should take immediate steps to grant Notified Area Council (NAC) status to Begunia and set up a Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) court in the area to provide legal services to locals without hassle”, an agitator said.
