Raipur/Bhopal: Barely a day after a purported statement by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Maoist), seeking peace talks with the government, became public, the outfit killed two villagers in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, accusing them of being police informers.

The villager in Chhattisgarh has been identified as Dashru Ram Oyam, a resident of Benchram of Bijapur. He was dragged out of his house by a group of Maoists around midnight on Tuesday. The Naxalites accused him of passing information to security forces and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, killing him on the spot.

With this, the number of civilians killed by the Maoists in Chhattisgarh in 2025 has risen to 37, the police said.

In Madhya Pradesh, a tribal youth was kidnapped and murdered by the Maoists in the Lanji area of Balaghat district, the police said.

The Naxalites left two pamphlets written in red ink in Chauriya village — one claiming the youth was “sentenced to death” for allegedly spying for police, and another warning local youths against cooperating with security forces.

The youth was identified as Devendra Kushwaha, alias Dhadu. Police confirmed the disappearance and the recovery of the pamphlets. The second pamphlet also accused the police of inciting violence and killing innocent villagers.

The police said that Dhadu made a living by selling milk and milk products. He also supplied milk to police camps but never had any interaction regarding the movement of the extremists. He was apparently abducted in the forest while tending to his cows. His body was found on Wednesday.

In the second pamphlet, the Maoists described security forces as protectors of “feudal-imperialist forces that plunder, displace, and destroy the poor,” and urged villagers to stay away from the police and their operations.

Officials suspect the Malajkhand area committee of the CPI (Maoist) is behind the killing. Security forces have been deployed in Lanji, and search operations intensified across the Malajkhand belt.

Meanwhile, two Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur on Wednesday. Officials have made it clear that operations will continue till the Naxalites are eliminated or surrender.
