Day Temp Jumps 5°C Above Normal In Bhubaneswar; 19 Places In Odisha Record 35°C & Above
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha capital experienced the hottest February day this season as the mercury shot up to 38 degree Celsius which was also the highest in the state so far, on February 21,
The day temperature touched 35 degree Celsius and more at 19 places in Odisha with Angul coming a close second at 37.1 degree Celsius, followed by Talcher at 37 degree Celsius.
While the state has been witnessing a gradual rise in the temperature in the last two days, the mercury shot up to 5 degree Celsius above normal in the city. Bhubaneswar had last seen a sharp rise in the mercury level on February 23, 2019, when the day temperature was recorded at 39.4 degree Celsius. In 2020, the city recorded the highest day temperature of 34.6 degree Celsius on February 16, sources said.
On February 26, 2021, the city breached the season’s first 40 degree Celsius with the maximum temperature touching 40.4 degrees Celsius, the highest for February in the last 58 years. An all-time high of 42.7 degrees Celsius was recorded on February 23, 1963.

According to IMD, dry weather conditions will prevail across the state for the next five days with no large change in the night temperature. The maximum temperature in Bhubaneswar will hover between 35°C and 36°C till February 27.
Notably, the MeT office earlier forecast the daytime temperature in the state to remain above normal this month with coastal districts feeling the ‘heat’ more. This rise in temperature is being attributed to weak La Nina conditions and a lack of rainfall activity in February
