Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday said that the maximum temperature is likely to rise by 2 to 3 degree Celsius and remain 3 to 5 degree Celsius above normal at many places in interior Odisha during the next three to four days.
The Met Office has also issued yellow warning for some places in the state, which are likely to witness heatwave conditions, during the next two days.
March 30
Heatwave condition is very likely to prevail at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, and Balangir.
March 31
Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Angul, and Kalahandi are likely to experience similar weather conditions
The IMD also expressed a slight concern for the health of vulnerable people – infants, the elderly and sick people – due to the heat. People have been advised to take precautionary measures while going outside during midday.
Notably, seven places in Odisha recorded 40 degree Celsius and above on Monday. Balangir was the hottest at 41 degree Celsius. Baripada recorded 40.8, followed by Titilagarh (40.5); Talcher (40.2); Angul and Sonepur at 40.1 degrees each and Boudh (40).
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded slight decline in the day temperature with both places registering 37.2 degree Celsius each.
The seaside town of Gopalpur continued to record the lowest temperature in the state at 30.7 degree Celsius.
