Dead Trees From Puri Sanctuary To Light Kitchen Fire At Jagannath Temple
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Forest Department on Friday decided to send dead wood from Balukhand sanctuary along the Puri-Konark marine drive to Shree Jagannath temple and Swargadwar in Puri.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the State Wildlife Board presided by the Forest and Environment Minister, Bikram Keshari Arukha, here.
The minister said as thousands of trees were uprooted during Cyclone Fani in May, it was decided that about 15 lakh quintals of dead trees will be sent to Shree Jagannath temple for cooking purposes and to Swargadwar for funerals.
Arukha further said that the Forest Department will cut 36 trees to use for the construction of a ropeway at Nandankanan Zoo.
