Phulbani: The death toll in the road accident at Poiguda ghat near Baliguda in Odisha’s Kandhamal district on Tuesday morning has mounted to 10.
According to latest reports, six persons had died on the spot, while four seriously injured succumbed at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur in the afternoon.
The death toll is most likely to increase further as condition some among the 21 seriously injured persons admitted to MKCG is stated to be critical.
Talking to the mediapersons in Bhubaneswar, Commerce and Transport minister Nrusingha Charan Sahu said he has asked the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) to probe the incident. Action will be taken on the basis of the report, he added.
Asked about the steps the state government has taken to bring down the incidents of road accidents, the minister said such incidents are taking place due to lack of road safety awareness among the people. “Though people are advised against traveling in goods transport vehicles, they continue to do so because of which such mishaps are taking place,” he pointed out.
