Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik on Monday expressed reservations about the decision of Odisha Pradesh Youth Congress (OPYC) to protest the visit of BJP National President Amit Shah to Odisha.
“As the president of a national party, it is the duty and responsibility of Amit Shah to campaign for his party. Why should we oppose his visit to Odisha?” Niranjan told mediapersons here.
When asked about the decision of the state Youth Congress, the OPCC chief said he does not know who has taken this decision and why.
Niranjan’s statement followed burning of a poster of Amit Shah by some Youth Congress activists led by their president Loknath Maharathi in front of the Congress Bhawan.
Talking to mediapersons, Maharathi said the Youth Congress would protest wherever the BJP president visits the state. “We will protest him on the issue of Mahanadi, unemployment and black money,” he added.
Shah is scheduled to visit the state on July 1 to review party affairs.
