Bhubaneswar: With the Deep Depression over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of West Bengal-North Odisha
coasts expected to cross coasts close to Baleshwar by afternoon, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nowcast warning for the twin cities of Odisha till around 5 pm on Monday.
Light to moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning may occur in Bhubaneswar and Kataka during the next 3 hours.
People have been advised to keep a watch and move to safer places to protect themselves from worsening weather conditions.
Under its influence, heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Odisha on July 27, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on July 28 and heavy rainfall from July 29-August 1.
The Met office has issued a red warning for districts of Sundaragada, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj on July 27. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may also occur at a few places in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Sonpur, Boudh, Kandhamala, Nuapada Nabaarangpur, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala.
Heavy rainfall is likely at a few places in Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, Nayagada.
The IMD further warned of squally winds with speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph over North Bay of Bengal & adjoining Odisha-West Bengal-north Andhra Pradesh coasts till the morning of July 28 and decrease gradually thereafter. Squally winds with speed reaching 40-50 gusting to 60 kmph are also likely over central and northeast Bay of Bengal during this period.
All ports in Odisha have been directed to hoist Local Cautionary Signal No-III (LC-3).
