Defamation Case Against Minister: Public Representatives Should Be Held Accountable For Verbal Attacks, Nagarjuna Tells Court

Hyderabad: Nagarjuna Akkineni on Wednesday appeared before the Nampally court to record his statement against Telangana Forest & Environment minister Konda Surekha in a defamation case.

The veteran actor told the court that the Telangana minister’s remarks over the divorce of his son Naga Chaitanya and Samantha Ruth Prabhu has tarnished the reputation of his family.

“The Minister’s comments were nothing but degrading the dignity of the family,” Nagarjuna said, as reported by The Hindu.

Nagarjuna reiterated what he said earlier, that the remarks made by the minister before the media were “false”, “offensive” and “politically motivated”.

The actor, who was accompanied by wife Amala Akkineni, son Naga Chaitanya and niece Supriya Yarlagadda, also told the court that public representatives should be held “accountable for their verbal attacks”.

Supriya became the first witness in the case and recorded her statement before the court.

Nagarjuna’s counsel submitted to the court a video recording of the minister’s comment.

On October 2, Surekha alleged that there was link between Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) and the divorce of Chaitanya and Samantha’s.

“It is KT Rama Rao because of whom Samantha’s divorce happened. He was a minister at that time and used to tap the phones of the actresses, find their weaknesses, and blackmail them. He would make them drug addicts, and everyone knows this — Samantha, Naga Chaitanya, his family, everybody is aware that such a thing happened,” the minister had said.

Besides Nagarjuna, KTR has also slapped a legal notice to Surekha asking her to withdraw her defamatory comments or face legal action.
