New Delhi: Chief Minister Of Delhi Atishi broke down on Monday when asked about BJP candidate from Kalkaji Assembly constituency Ramesh Bidhuri’s reported objectionable comment on her father.
“I want to tell Ramesh Bidhuri ji, my father was a teacher his whole life. He taught a lot of students from poor and middle-class backgrounds. Today he is 80 years old and he is very unwell and can’t walk without help,” he told a presser while apparently struggling to control her tears.
“For elections, he stooped so low…he will abuse an old man. This country’s politics can stoop so low…I cannot believe it. He is asking for votes by abusing my old father,” she added.
On Sunday, Bidhuri had targeted his opponent in Kalkaji, Atishi, over her surname during a rally in the capital on Sunday. “This Marlena (surname used earlier by Atishi) became Singh. Kejriwal swore over his children not to go with the corrupt Congress; Marlena changed fathers. This is their character,” he said.
Atishi dropped her surname a while back.
The comments drew sharp criticism from AAP with its Arvind Kejriwal accusing BJP leaders of “crossing all limits of shamelessness”. “BJP leaders are using filthy language against Delhi’s Chief Minister Atishi. The people of Delhi will not tolerate the insult of a female Chief Minister. All the women of Delhi will take revenge for this,” the former CM wrote in a post on X.
