New Delhi: Delhi’s Patiala House court on Monday closed a sexual harassment case which had been filed against former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Singh under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The court accepted Delhi Police’s cancellation in the case filed on June 15, 2023.
The minor wrestler, on whose behalf the case POCSO case was lodged, and her father did not raise any objection to the police report on August 1, 2023, and expressed satisfaction with the police investigation.
Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet in the sexual harassment complaint filed by six female wrestlers against Brij Bhushan, but in the case involving the minor, they submitted a cancellation report.
The court then issued a notice to the minor complainant and her father, seeking their response. The minor complainant and her father appeared, but the court sought multiple clarifications.
The court also asked the complainant to appear before it again.
The closure order was finally passed on Monday, accepting Delhi Police’s closure report.
“We have achieved a judicial victory in a false and fabricated case. Every baseless allegation is now being thwarted in the dock of justice. This is the victory of truth – and this victory will continue!!” Brij Bhushan’s son Prateek Bhushan Singh wrote on X in Hindi.
In 2022 and 2023, several wrestlers sat on a prolonged protest demanding a probe against Brij Bhushanim. Among those who led the protest were Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat, along with Olympic bronze medal-winners Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik.
