Delhi: The Delhi government has decided to withdraw the ‘special corona fee’ levied at 70 per cent of the maximum retail price on all categories of liquor, with effect from June 10, the ANI reported.
Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal briefed the media about this recent development.
Reports claimed that this decision was taken in the wake of the increasing tax pilferage.
On May 5, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government had imposed a ‘special corona fee’ on liquor after deciding to allow the opening of the shops amid lockdown relaxations.
Following which, the state government earned over Rs 110 crore as tax in just 15 days, according to CNBC TV18.
Besides this, an e-coupon system was introduced to avoid crowding of liquor shops.
Notably, the government’s revenue has been badly hit by the corona-induced lockdown.
