New Delhi: Two persons were arrested on Friday for allegedly chasing a woman journalist, who was driving back home in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj from her office in Sector-129, Noida late last night.
The arrested have been identified as Deepak and Shubham, both residents of Delhi’s Dabri who worked as bartenders. While there are several criminal cases registered against them, they were allegedly drunk when they harassed and attacked the journalist.
The Midnight Ordeal
The journalist was chased by the two men on a scooty after she overtook them on the Mahamaya flyover at around 12.45 am. “They tried to stop me. Initially, I ignored them, but I later noticed that they were trying to block my car. The men gestured to me to stop, but I continued to drive. I took out my phone and started recording them in an attempt to ward them off,” NDTV reported, quoting the journalist.
The terrifying late-night drive did not end there. When she slowed down due to traffic on the expressway, Shubham, who was riding pillion, got off the scooty and pounded on her windshield. He then approached her door and tried to force it open, though it was locked.
The journalist further said that Shubham took out a wooden object and smashed the car’s rear windscreen and left rear window. “I sped up and somehow managed to reach the DND Flyway. But the two men kept chasing me, so I called a colleague for advice, who told me to keep driving without stopping,” she added.
Her ordeal only ended upon reaching the Lajpat Nagar area, where she sought help from a group of taxi drivers. They instructed her to pull over. Once she stopped her car at Gupta market, the two men on the scooty fled the scene.
She had by then already called the police and shared her location.
Police soon arrived at the scene, took the woman’s statement, and asked her to file a First Information Report (FIR). “She overtook a scooty, after which its riders began to follow her and attempted to confront her. Demonstrating courage and alertness, she did not stop and instead drove towards a safer location,” the Delhi Police said in a statement.
The journalist contacted the police helpline at 1.27 am. “The local police team promptly reached the location within minutes to assist the caller and ensure her safety,” police said.
Based on her complaint, an investigation was launched to apprehend the accused. “Multiple teams of PS SunLight Colony, Special Staff, and AATS were formed to identify and trace the accused. CCTV footage from the route and nearby areas was meticulously examined, and intelligence from local sources was developed. Both accused were identified and detained within a short span of time. They have been found previously involved in a case under the Arms Act (FIR No. 44/2025, PS Dabri),” they added.
