New Delhi: An unidentified man allegedly shot a protesting student of Jamia Millia Islamia during an anti-CAA protest at Jamia here on Thursday.
The accused was taken into custody and the injured student was rushed to a nearby hospital, police said.
The incident took place when protesters, including students of Jamia Millia Islamia, were marching towards Rajghat to hold a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).
A video clip shared by news agency ANI shows a man brandishing a pistol while walking backwards during the protest near Holy Family hospital at Jamia.
Earlier on Tuesday, an armed man had entered the protest site at Shaheen Bagh and threatened anti-CAA agitators. A video clip of the alleged incident showed a gun-wielding man being overpowered by the protesters.
According to police, the man was identified as Mohammad Luqmaan (50), a resident of Shaheen Bagh, and he was carrying a licensed pistol. He had gone to the protest site with a group of people to talk to the demonstrators regarding the reopening of the road blocked by them, they said.
