New Delhi: Seven illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, including five women, were arrested and deported from south Delhi on Sunday.
This is part of a campaign launched by Delhi Police to catch illegal Bangladesh immigrants in the Indian Capital. Last week, five such immigrants were nabbed and deported.
“South District Delhi Police has started a campaign to nab illegal Bangladeshi immigrants throughout Delhi. We nabbed 5 Bangladeshi illegal migrants last week and 7 today, which includes 5 women and 2 men… We found Bangladesh IDs on them. Some were working on construction sites and others were planning to work in beauty parlours. After further verification, we deported them through FRO (Foreigners Registration Office),” DCP South Delhi Ankit Chauhan said.
The Bangladeshi nationals were arrested near the Arjangarh Metro station in Fatehpur Beri area.
Raids were conducted in slums, labour camps and unauthorised colonies during the operation.
Two of the immigrants said during interrogation that they illegally crossed the border and had been living in Gurugram’s Rajeev Nagar.
The special drive is being carried out on Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena’s order to identify and take strict action against illegal immigrants residing across Delhi and NCR region.
