New Delhi: A 21-year-old woman has alleged that two men riding a motorcycle followed her, made sexually suggestive remarks and caused her to fall from her scooter near Panchsheel Park Metro station in south Delhi on September 11.
The woman, a fourth-year student at a design institute in Okhla, said she was returning to her home in Kalkaji when the incident occurred at around midnight. According to her complaint, the two men began pursuing her on their motorcycle and repeatedly passed remarks.
When she attempted to get away by increasing her speed, the men allegedly continued following her and moved alongside her scooter. Police said one of them then pushed her scooter with the motorcycle before the duo fled from the spot, as reported by Hindustan Times.
The woman lost control and fell, sliding for nearly 100-150 metres. She suffered injuries to several parts of her body, including her legs, arms and face, according to her complaint.
Two men riding another scooter reportedly stopped to help her and took her to a hospital. The woman, a Nainital native, is now being treated in Kanpur, where her extended family lives. She said doctors have advised two months of bed rest for her foot injury.
Woman Claims Police Did Not Act
She said she called the police control room after the incident and spoke to officers by phone on September 12. However, she alleged that no action was taken later.
While she remained in Kanpur for treatment, her friends filed a complaint through a lawyer at Hauz Khas police station on September 15.
Police Verify Complaint
Deputy commissioner of police (south) Anant Mittal said police registered a case under Section 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rash driving.
He said officers reached the spot after receiving a PCR call around 1am, but the woman had already been taken to Max Hospital, Saket. She was discharged at her request.
Police later spoke to her, and she said she was going to another hospital, Mittal said. Teams are now checking the facts and reconstructing the incident.
The woman’s cousin visited Hauz Khas police station on September 14 and reviewed available CCTV footage but could not identify her or the alleged suspects.
A lawyer filed a complaint on her behalf the next day. Police contacted the woman again, and she said she would return to Delhi after recovering, Mittal said.
