HC Bench Demand: Bandh Cripples Life In Undivided Koraput District
Jeypore: The 12-hour bandh call given in the undivided Koraput district by the joint action committee demanding a permanent High Court bench threw life out of gear on Tuesday.
While all trading and business establishments, educational institutions and government offices remained closed, vehicles stayed off the road in Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri districts during the bandh.
However, emergency services was kept out of the purview of the bandh.
Protesting against gross apathy of the state government and the Centre in not fulfilling the long-standing demands of the people of the undivided Koraput district to set up a permanent High Court bench, the joint action committee, in consultation the bar associations in these four districts, has given the 12-hour bandh which began at 6 am.
The bandh is supported by the BJP, Congress and CPI and several social organisations and civil societies.
Demanding a permanent HC bench, lawyers of Jeypore Bar Association had also resorted to 15-day cease work.
