Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued very dense fog warning for nine districts of coastal Odisha till next 24 hours.
Talking to the media here on Tuesday, Duty Officer of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Laxmidhar Mahapatra said the atmospheric condition supported formation of dense fog in the coastal belts of the state.
“There is hardly any wind flow in the coastal districts during the day time while the south-westerly wind starts flowing towards the surface at 4-5 knots in the late afternoon, carrying more moisture from the sea. Besides, there is an anti-cyclonic circulation over Odisha and a low pressure over the equatorial Indian Ocean and the adjoining south Bay of Bengal. All these factors contributed to formation of dense fog.
Taking all these factors into consideration, IMD has issued dense to very dense fog warning at one or two places in Puri Khurda, Nayagarh, Cuttack, Jagatsinhpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore during next 24 hours, he added.
