Bhubaneswar: Thick blanket of fog engulfed Cuttack, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, Gopalpur and Balangir on Friday morning amid the abatement of cold wave conditions in Odisha.
Shallow to moderate fog was also seen at Paradip, Puri, Keonjhar, Bhawanipatna, Jharsuguda and Sundargarh, according to the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.
Notably, the weather agency had issued dense fog warning for one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Koraput, Balangir, Sonepur and Boudh districts till 8.30 this morning. Shallow to moderate fog was also likely at a few places in North Interior Odisha and at one or two places in remaining districts of Odisha.
The dense fog warning continues for another two days.
Koraput was the coldest place in the state at 9.2 degree Celsius, which was 3.7 degree below normal. Other places in state recorded normal or above normal temperature. The mercury was 5-8 degrees above normal at six places – Sambalpur (+7.4), Phulbani (+6.5), Hirakud (+6), Titlagarh (+5.9), Bhawanipatna (+5.9), and Sundargarh (+5.7).
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack recorded 18.2 and 17.5 degree Celsius, respectively, 2.7 and 3.1 degrees above normal.
The state also experienced rain during the last 24 hours with Jamda in Mayurbhanj receiving the highest of 32 mm rainfall, followed by Joda in Keonjhar at 27.2 mm.
