Bhubaneswar: Reeling under intense cold for the last five days, Odisha is likely to experience gradual rise in the night temperature over the next few days. Dense fog is likely to envelope different parts of the state in the next two days.

While the mercury is already showing signs of increase, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said there will be no large change in minimum temperature (night temperature) for next four days. Night temperature across the state is likely to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius thereafter, it said.

The weather agency also said that dense to very dense fog is likely to occur at one or two places over the district of Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Koraput during the next 24 hours. Yellow warning was issued for these districts.

Similarly, shallow to moderate fog may occur at one or two places of Khurda, Angul, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Keonjhar, and Malkangiri during the period.

On Tuesday and Wednesday also dense to very dense fog may occur at one or two places of Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Koraput districts.

Dry weather is likely to prevail over the districts of Odisha over the next few days.

Notably, dense fog engulfed several parts of the state on Monday morning as temperatures remained chilly.

Major stretches of the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack remained shrouded in intense fog and mist since early morning with visibility limited to nearly 50 meters.

Highways leading through these cities remained barely visible, causing significant problems for vehicular movement.

As per data released by the weather agency, Rourkela recorded dense fog with visibility between 50 and 200 meters while moderate fog enveloped areas of Phulbani, Dhenkanal, and Angul districts, with shallow fog over Gopalpur.

Meanwhile, Koraput remained the coldest place in the last 24 hours with 7.5 degrees Celsius, while G Udayagiri in Kandhamal recorded 8.5 degrees Celsius.

Similarly, night temperature in state capital Bhubaneswar as well as neighbouring Cuttack city stood at 14.5 degrees Celsius.
