Depression Over Gulf Of Martaban: No Direct Impact On Odisha, Says IMD

Bhubaneswar: The depression over the Gulf of Martaban and adjoining Myanmar will have no direct impact over Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s regional centre here said in its midday bulletin on Friday.

“The well marked low pressure area over the Gulf of Martaban and adjoining Myanmar intensified into a depression over the same region and lay centered at 0830 hours IST on May 20 about 40 km southwest of Mawlamyine (Myanmar), 140 km eastsoutheast of Yangon (Myanmar) and 700 km northeast of Port Blair (Andaman Islands). It is very likely to move northeastwards and cross south Myanmar coast around Mawlamyine by evening of today. The system has no direct impact over Odisha,” the IMD said.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon has further advanced into parts of south Arabian Sea, southern parts of Maldives, some more parts of south and eastcentral Bay of Bengal, it said.
