Bhubaneswar: After a spell of low-pressure-induced heavy rain and thunderstorm activity, the day temperature is likely to rise in Odisha from June 1 .
While there will be no large change in the maximum temperature during the next two days, the mercury levels may rise by 2 to 4 degree Celsius during the subsequent 4 days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Friday.
The weather agency has warned of thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Sundargarh, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada district till Saturday morning.
Squally wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph gusting to 50 kmph may continue to prevail along and off Odisha coast during this period as the depression over Bangladesh is expected to weaken further into a well-marked low pressure area during the next 12 hours. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into sea, along & off North Odisha coast and adjoining North Bay of Bengal.
The national forecaster added that light to moderate rain may continue in some parts of coastal and southern districts of the state till June 5.
The Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) of SOA Deemed to be University had earlier said that Odisha may experience a dry period accompanied by rise in temperature between June 1 and June 3 after which rainfall is expected to increase with southwest monsoon covering more areas of the state.
Till May 29, Southwest Monsoon had covered entire Malkangiri, Koraput and Gajapati districts and most parts of Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Ganjam and some parts of Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Khurda and Puri districts.
