Puri: Several AI-generated videos and photos of Lord Jagannath and siblings have gone viral on social media platforms, triggering a major controversy and outrage among devotees across Odisha and beyond.
Devotees and scholars have pointed out that the visuals shown in the viral videos are against the sacred traditions of Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri.
In one of the videos, a massive idol of Lord Jagannath is shown standing in front of the Singhadwara on Bada Danda and milk being poured over it using a crane.
Many other tradition-violating scenes can be seen in the visuals, apart from unrealistic depictions inside the premises of the 12th century shrine.
Similar scenes created through AI show giant idols inside the temple premises being bathed via machinery. The videos, uploaded on social media platforms like Instagram, have sparked outrage among devotees who feel these images and visuals hurt the emotions and religious sentiments of millions of Odia people.
