New Delhi: Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, the face of Indian Army during Operation Sindoor, was on Monday promoted as Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy), reported ANI.
The Deputy Chief of Army Staff (Strategy) is a relatively new vertical created to oversee Indian Army’s Operations and Intelligence Directorates, among other important branches.
It is considered to be one of the most crucial appointments in the Indian Army, according to the Ministry of Defence.
General Uoendra Dwivedi is the Chief of Army Staff, while Lt General Anil Chauhan is the Chief of Defence Staff.
Lt Gen Ghai, who was honoured with the Uttam Yudh Seva Medal by President Droupadi Murmu last week, will continue in his role as DGMO.

Lt Gen Ghai became a household name in India as the DGMO was the face of the Army during press briefings on Operation Sindoor last month. He, along with other senior officers, updated their fellow Indians on the strikes by the Armed Forces on terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, military installations and airbases across the border, and how our air defence system repelled the enemy’s drones and missiles launched at several Indian towns and cities.
On May 10, after nearly four days of hostilities, Lt Gen got calls from his Pakistani counterpart Major General Kashif Abdullah to discuss ceasefire, following which both sides agreed to halt all military actions on land, in the air, and at sea.
