Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi advised the police to follow the mantra of SMRT (strategic, meticulous, adaptable, reliable and transparent) policing to counter the new faces of crime in the country.
Speaking on the concluding day of three-day DGP-IGP Conference in Bhubaneswar on Sunday, Modi called upon the police to convert the challenge posed due to digital frauds, cyber crimes and AI into an opportunity by harnessing India’s double AI power of Artificial Intelligence and ‘Aspirational India’.
He also stressed the use of technology to reduce the workload of the constabulary. The police needed to modernise and realign itself with the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’, he said.
Discussing the success of hackathons in solving some key problems, the Prime Minister suggested to deliberate on holding National Police Hackathons.
The conference witnessed in-depth discussions by the top brass of police leadership of the country on existing and emerging challenges to national security, including counter terrorism, LWE, cyber-crime, economic security, immigration, coastal security and narco-trafficking.
National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval also attended the deliberations on the concluding day.
Speaking to the media persons, Bhubaneswar Police Commissioner Suresh Devadatta Singh said the all-India DGP-IGP conference concluded successfully amid tight security.
Earlier, Union Home Minister, while inaugurating the event on Friday, underscored the role of the security establishment in achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047 and becoming the third-largest economy by 2027.
The Home Minister also emphasised on focusing on emerging security challenges along the Eastern border, immigration and trends in urban policing.
Following the conclusion of the conference, the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister flew back to New Delhi on Sunday evening.
