Dhabaleswar Hanging Bridge In Odisha’s Cuttack To Remain Closed For A Day

Cuttack: In the wake of cable bridge collapse at Morbi in Gujarat, Odisha’s Cuttack district has announced to close the hanging bridge to Dhabaleswar shrine for inspection for one day.

Cuttack district collector on Monday informed that a technical team had submitted its report on the Dhabaleswar hanging bridge. As per its report, the officials of the district administration will inspect the bridge to assess its stability and check any weaknesses that may pose threat to the people using it. The 254-metre suspension bridge leads to Dhabaleswar temple on an island in Mahanadi river in Athagarh of Cuttack district.

“Due to the visit of the officials and inspection, the hanging bridge will remain closed to the visitors on Tuesday. Fire personnel and ODRAF team will be deployed near the bridge,” he said and appealed to the people to visit the temple on boats.

Earlier, the administration had restricted the capacity of the bridge to 200 devotees following the accident in Gujarat. “The hanging bridge has become weak. Movement of more than 200 people at a time is prohibited,” read a poster put up by the Rural Development department at the bridge.
