Berhampur/Puri: Dhadi (queue) darshan system to streamline devotees’ movement at Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri will be implemented by end of April, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan informed on Tuesday.
“Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee will be officially constituted within a week. Shifting of the ‘hundi’ (donation box) inside the Natya Mandap is one of proposals, which is expected to get the committee’s approval. The process will begin once the resolution is passed and permission for the same is granted by the state government,” he told reporters during his visit to Tara Tarini temple in Berhampur.
The queue system will begin once the ‘hundi’ is shifted and in all likelihood by the end of this month, he added.
THE DHADI SYSTEM
The Mohan Mjahi government had announced plans to launch the new queue management system from January 1, 2025, after trial runs at the end of December 2024. However, it was deferred to February 1 over shifting of the ‘hundi’ inside the Natya Mandap.
The plan includes a six-lane barricade system with the first lane for differently-abled people, the second for women and children, third for the elderly and the rest to be used by male devotees. There will be two elevated ramps to ensure that the devotees have a clear darshan of the sibling deities inside the sanctum sanctorum from the Natya Mandap.
Under the dhadi system, devotees will enter through the Sata Pahacha door. Women, differently-abled, children and elderly devotees will then exit from Ghantidwara and male devotees from Darada Dwara.
The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has obtained permission from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to install barricades without causing any structural damage to Natya Mandap.
