Dharmendra Going Strong At 86: ‘I Was Born To Love And Get Loved’

Mumbai: Dharmendra, one of Bollywood’s most handsome heroes in his prime, turned 86 on Wednesday but is still going strong.

The octogenarian, in fact, was in Delhi recently to shoot for his upcoming film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani’.

“I know that I have turned 86, but I don’t sit and think about my age. I just work with honesty, aur khush hota hun jab log abhi bhi pyaar karte hain (I feel happy to see people still love me)… For them, I am still the same Dharmendra. I feel I was born to love and get loved. I get inner happiness when I witness all the love that I get even now,” Hindustan Times quoted Dharmendra as saying.

The veteran actor said he stopped celebrating his birthday after his mother (Satwant Kaur) passed away. “Because my mother was the only one who used to celebrate my birthday with so much love and compassion. Ab janam dene wali hi nahi toh kya janamdin,” he said.

On his plan for Wednesday, he said sometimes, people came to meet him. “I used to meet them… But I have stopped that also because of the pandemic. So, family ke saath ghar par hi hunga mein at my farm.”

The actor, who made his debut in 1960 with ‘Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere’, acted in more than 300 films.

Dharmendra, who featured in the 2018 film ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana Phi Se’ with his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, wants to continue working.

“I love the camera and the camera loves me. Han beech mein thoda gap ho jata hai, but pir kahin na kahin mil jaate hain. In fact, imagine I am playing a romantic role in my next film at 86,” added Dharmendra.
