Bhubaneswar: Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has requested Union Culture and Tourism Minister Mahesh Sharma to send a team to identify a suitable place in Barunei Fort for establishment of a memorial to commemorate the Paika Rebellion.
The Barunei Fort was the Paika Rebellion’s epicentre and the seat of power of the Gajapati King of Khurda.
In his letter dated August 23, Dharmendra thanked the Union Culture Minister for organising the 200th year celebration of Paika Rebellion at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on July 20 this year as a part of the year-long activity of Government of India as pronounced in the Budget Speech of Union Finance Minister.
He also emphasised that the Paika Rebellion of 1817 AD be given its due recognition in the history of Indian freedom struggle.
