Dhenkanal Gang Rape Case: SCW, Odisha Directs SP To File Chargesheet Within 15 Days
Bhubaneswar: In the alleged gang-rape case of a homeless woman in Odisha’s Dhenkanal, the State Commission For Women (SCW) on Tuesday directed the district Superintendent of Police (SP), to file a chargesheet within 15 days.
Taking suo-motto cognisance of the case, SCW, Odisha ordered Dhenkanal SP Madkar Sandeep Sampat to expedite investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
Earlier, Deputy CM and Women & Child Development Minister Pravati Parida had spoken to Dhenkanal SP about the incident and directed the police to take stringent action against the culprits.
Following this, Dhenkanal SP had said that trial proceedings of the sensational case at Mahulapunji village will be conducted in a fast track court.
“We have decided to prosecute the gang rape accused in a fast track court and submit the chargesheet as soon as possible to ensure speedy trial,” the SP had stated.
The brutal gang rape of the woman for months in an abandoned Anganwadi centre in Dhenkanal sent shockwaves shockwaves around the state.
The incident came to light after SAKHI centre officials lodged a police complaint in this regard, said sources.
While the victim’s mother had died, her father is mentally unstable. As the family is poor, they live in a deserted Anganwadi centre at Mahulapunji village in Bhapur panchayat of Dhenkanal district.
