Bhubaneswar: Authorities in Bhubaneswar suspect contamination of water in a sump tank to be the source of a diarrh0ea-like outbreak in Ward No. 13 of Niladri Vihar.
At least 150 residents of the area have been affected by the outbreak with several complaining of fever, loose motion, body ache, vomiting, abdominal pain, among other symptoms.
According to the residents, impurities such as mud, cement, and wood have been found in the water tank. Authorities claimed that samples from at least 5 sources in the area had been sent for testing, following the outbreak. Besides, preventive measures are being taken to prevent further spread of the outbreak.
Several patients are receiving treatment at health centers and Capital Hospital.
According to reports, a health department team is currently conducting thorough investigations in the affected area to assess the prevailing situation and ascertain the exact cause behind the outbreak.
Local residents have claimed that there is diarrhoea outbreak in the area for the last 20 days. They alleged that people had fallen ill after consuming water from the sump tank. Authorities claimed many patients had recovered after treatment.
