Washington: Billionaire Elon Musk reportedly joined a high level a telephonic conversation between US President Donald Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this week.
Musk joined the call during which Trump and Modi discussed the ongoing conflict involving Iran and the broader security situation in West Asia, NYT reported. The report, citing US officials, said it remains unclear why Musk was included or whether he actively contributed to the discussion.
The conversation marked the first known interaction between the two leaders since the escalation of the Iran conflict following US and Israeli military actions earlier this year. Both leaders reportedly exchanged views on regional stability and the importance of maintaining peace and security.
The presence of Musk — who holds no official government position — has been described as highly unusual, especially given the sensitive nature of wartime diplomatic discussions. Analysts say such participation by a private business figure highlights the expanding intersection between technology leaders and geopolitics.
Reports suggest the talks may also have touched upon the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz.
While neither the White House nor the Indian government provided details on Musk’s exact role, US officials described the Trump–Modi conversation as “productive” and reflective of strong bilateral ties.
The development comes amid increasing global scrutiny of the political influence of major technology executives, particularly as their companies play expanding roles in communications, defence technology and space infrastructure.
As of now, Musk has not publicly commented on his reported participation in the call.
