Dehradun: A probe has been ordered after a man alleged that his 26-year-old wife died nine months after childbirth as doctors left a bandage inside her abdomen.
Officials confirmed on Wednesday that a committee, headed by the chief medical officer of Dehradun Manoj Sharma, will probe the death of Jyoti Pal at a private hospital in the city.
In his complaint, Prajjwal Pal has claimed that Jyoti delivered a son via cesarean section at the Eye and Mother Care Centre in January this year. He alleged that doctors left a bandage inside her abdomen during the surgery and stitched her up, a lapse that later contributed to her death.
Everything seemed normal after the childbirth till Jyoti started experiencing severe stomach ache, he said.
“A few days later, Jyoti began experiencing abdominal pain, after which she was taken to the same hospital, but doctors were unable to explain the cause,” it was mentioned in the complaint.
She was admitted to another hospital after her condition deteriorated. There it was discovered that a bandage inside her abdomen had caused a severe stomach infection. Jyoti later succumbed to the infection.
Such incidents are not uncommon. In March this year, a doctor from Meerut was booked for leaving a bundle of cotton inside a woman after a C-Section.
In February, a private hospital in Karnataka’s Puttur faced similar accusations after a surgical mop was found inside a woman’s abdomen. It had apparently been left there during a C-section in November 2024. This led to an emergency surgery to save her life.
