New Delhi: Like most women, Lata Mangeshkar, who breathed her last on Sunday at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, was very fond of jewellery, especially diamonds and pearls, which she always wore in her ears. According to reports, she used to keep all her signature jewellery in a special locker in her Peddar Road apartment. That was perhaps her only indulgence.
No one could miss her diamond earrings at public appearances.
So, what will happen to her collection now?
The family is planning to ensure all her favourite pieces are taken care of and remain a part of her legacy. “Lata didi was very particular about her earrings and she had a set of solitaires that was her favourite. She loved to pair her signature white saris with her sparkling diamond earrings. She was very meticulous about her look and what she wore when she stepped out in public. She looked angelic in her saris and those signature solitaires,” India Today quoted a source close to the family as saying.
The Mangeshkar family plans to treasure each and every signature piece of Lata didi’s favourite jewellery and make sure it’s well taken care of.
Do you know that the legendary singer had dabbled in designing jewellery?
In 2005, Lata Mangeshkar designed for an Indian diamond export company called Adora. She was shopping at their store once when she met the company director. The meeting resulted in a tie-up between the two and a collection called Swaranjali. Each piece in the Lata Mangeshkar line, specially designed by the singer, carried her laser-imprinted signature. Five pieces from this collection were auctioned at Christie’s and raked in Rs 7,83,903, which the melody queen donated for the 2005 Kashmir earthquake relief.
