Bhubaneswar: Toyota recently introduced a new variant of its popular SUV – Fortuner Legender 4×4 in India. This is priced at Rs 42.33 lakh ex-showroom. With registration, insurance and other costs, the on-road price comes to around Rs 53 lakh in Bengaluru.
It is pertinent to mention here that the 1st generation Fortuner was launched at a price of ₹18.4 lakhs (ex-showroom) back in 2009. Also, this is not the only Toyota to have commanded such a steep price hike. Its popular MUV Innova too has seen prices increasing double-fold in a similar time span. It is reported that Toyota service costs are reasonable compared to similarly priced German vehicles.
Apart from inflation, Toyotas have earned a reputation of being highly reliable vehicles and countless examples of their cars crossing 5-10 lakh kilometres are clearly a reason for them commanding premium pricing.
Sales-wise, Toyota is selling more than 2,000 units per month.
The new 2021 Fortuner starts at Rs 29 lakh ex-showroom and stretches beyond Rs 50 lakh on-road in some cities. The top-spec Legender 4×4 has the same 201 BHP engine and comes with an all-wheel-drive system.
