Mumbai: On New Year’s Day, popular Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and described the meeting as a “fantastic start” to 2025.
However, the meeting amidst ongoing protests by farmers didn’t go down well with farmer leaders as the singer had extended his support to them.
The disappointed farmer leaders questioned the singer’s commitment to their cause and stated that Diljit’s recent meeting with the PM contradicts his support for their movement.
“If Diljit truly cared about farmers, he would have come and joined us in solidarity. Instead, meeting PM Modi raises doubts about his intentions,” a farmer leader at the Shambu border told India Today.
Diljit’s meeting with Modi involved discussions on music, culture, and India’s rich heritage.
“A great interaction with Diljit Dosanjh! He’s truly multifaceted, blending talent and tradition. We connected over music, culture and more,” PM Modi wrote on X.
“When a boy from a small village in ‘Hindustan’ shines on the global stage, it feels amazing,” the PM added.
The singer reciprocated by writing, “The position of Prime Minister is great, but behind it, there is a mother, a son, and a human being.”
Diljit’s ‘Dil-Luminati India Tour’ over two months included concerts in Mumbai, Jaipur and Bengaluru.
