Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to include disaster management in school curriculum from 2018-19 academic year, Odisha Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) Managing Director Pradipta Mohapatra informed.
Addressing the state-level observance of Odisha Disaster Preparedness Day and National Day for Disaster Reduction here on Sunday, Mohapatra said, “School Safety Policy will be implemented by the School and Mass Education Department as per the guidelines of National Disaster Management Authority. School kids will be imparted training on life saving skills during disasters.”
The theme for this year’s disaster preparedness day is ‘Early Warning to Save Lives’, he said.
“Besides, early warning dissemination system will also be made operational in the state by November this year. As many as 122 early warning towers will be set up in the state soon. These towers will be managed by Special Relief Commissioner’s office,” Mohapatra added.
