Mumbai: Navneet Rana, the MP from Amravati who was jailed along with her MLA husband Ravi Rana for planning to recite Hanuman Chalisa outside Uddhav Thackeray’s house, has thrown a challenge at the Maharashtra CM.
An Independent MP, Navneet dared Shiv Sena supremo Uddhav to contest an election against her.
“I challenge Uddhav Thackeray ji to choose a constituency and get directly elected by people. I will fight against him. I will work hard, and with honesty, and win the election, and he will come to know of people’s power,” former actress Navneet told newspersons after being discharged from Lilavati Hospital on Sunday.
Navneet, however, may face a contempt of court for violating a bail condition and speaking to the media. Navneet and her MLA husband Ravi Rana were granted bail 4 days ago after being arrested by Mumbai Police on April 23 and charged with sedition.
The Rana duo walked out of jail on May 5, before Navneet was hospitalized for spondylitis treatment. Her husband claimed that Byculla jail officials neglected Navneet’s health issues.
“What crime did I commit for which I was jailed for 14 days? Mumbai and Lord Ram will teach the Shiv Sena a lesson in the upcoming civic polls. I will campaign against the Sena,” Navneet said.
The Maharashtra government is likely to file a contempt of court plea against Navneet.
“Accused shall not address the press on any subjects related to the Hanuman Chalisa recital case,” the court had said while granting bail.
