Bhubaneswar: A man was killed in Jharsuguda after he was attacked with liquor bottles, while a couple was run over by a truck in Banaharpali area in Jharsuguda district, in separate Diwali-related incidents.
A 29-year-old man died after he was attacked by friends, who were in an inebriated state, following a heated argument in Jharsuguda on Diwali night.
Police identified the deceased as Jatish Sahu, a truck driver from Kumbhari village. His attackers fled the spot. Passersby called the police, who rushed him to the district headquarters hospital here.
From there, he was referred to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla. He succumbed to injuries before he could be shifted.
Police have detained three accused and are interrogating them.
In a separate incident, a couple from Banaharpali area in Jharsuguda district was run over by a truck. Rama Krusha Saa and wife Sarita from Sapali village were on a two-wheeler when a truck hit them.
The couple was returning home after meeting their daughter and giving her Diwali sweets. Their daughter studies at Katarbaga School.
The incident took place near Sahasabaga Chhak on NH-49. The couple died on the spot. Angry residents blocked NH-49, disrupting traffic. They also demanded compensation for the family of the deceased.
