Berhampur: A doctor at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Odisha’s Berhampur has been accused of inappropriately referring a patient from the casualty department to a private hospital for personal benefit.
As per information, a patient named Balram Gouda of Baghalati in Golanthara area died due to alleged medical negligence at a private hospital in Berhampur. Following his death, family members have alleged that the patient was first taken to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital (MKCGMCH). However, he was referred to a private hospital for treatment.
Sources said the patient was allegedly referred to private hospital by assistant professor in Orthopaedics Department Dr Dillip Pradhan through a junior, a postgraduate medical student.
The family of the deceased claimed that they were advised to shift the patient to the private hospital by the junior doctor on instructions from Dr Pradhan.
Based on the complaint, MKCG MCH superintendent Prof Durga Madhab Satapathy has ordered an internal inquiry into the allegation. A committee has initiated a probe and is expected to submit its report soon. Appropriate action would be taken based on the findings of the probe panel, the superintendent said.
Dr Pradhan was not immediately available for comment.
